Writers in Conversation features some of today’s best fiction writers, poets, non-fiction writers and playwrights reading from their work and talking about their writing lifestyle – how characters take shape and where ideas come from. Hosted by Carole Burns, head of Creative Writing at the University of Southampton, the evening is relaxed, engaging and intelligent, yet informal.

Many of our events can be viewed on our Writers in Conversation Youtube channel for those who can’t get to Southampton.  Listen to the full readings and interviews, such as the event with H is for Hawk author Helen Macdonald, or check out edited extracts such as Tessa Hadley talking about place.

We have hosted events John Hansard Gallery and NSTheatres, but this autumn we plan to move online due to the need for social distancing due to Covid-19.  But the good news is: you can join in from anywhere next Autumn.  We’ll be posting our events soon.

WiC is hosted by Carole Burns, associate professor of English and head of Creative Writing at the University of Southampton, as part of the English department’s Centre for Modern and Contemporary Writing. logo
